Fans of the hit movie Avatar will be excited to hear the news that Zoe’ Saldana and Sam Worthington will be reprising their roles in the next three Avatar sequels. Stephen Lang who portrayed the role of Marine Colonel Quaritch in the 2009 film was the first to sign on to the sequels, but it remains unclear how he will return in the film considering his character was killed in the first film.
According to E News, Director James Cameron has confirmed that he will be filming the sequels back to back to back just like Peter Jackson’s “Hobbit Fantasy series”. According to Cameron the second Avatar movie will hit theaters in December 2016 with the third movie to follow in December 2017 and the fourth in December 2018.
In a statement to media outlet E News, Cameron said the following.
“Jake Sully is a rare combination of passion, strength, street smarts and soul, which requires a lot from an actor. Sam brought to the role a combination of sensitivity, vulnerability and strength,” Cameron said. “Zoë captured every aspect of the character I envisioned, bringing to Neytiri a mix of delicacy, fierceness and incredible physicality. I am beyond pleased they’ll be returning with us to Pandora.”
Cameron will direct the Avatar sequels along with his producing partner Jon Landau. Cameron has also hired a team of screenwriters; he has hired War of the World’s’ Josh Friedman, Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver and Savages’ Shane Salerno. These screenwriters will collaborate to write the script for the next three films.
Avatar was the highest grossing film at the box office of all time.
35 year old Saldana can been seen in her upcoming film “Marvel’s Guardian of the Galaxy” and she was recently cast in NBC’s Rosemary Baby miniseries.
