A new addition to one of the most talked about television families out there has emerged, debuting its first episode on E! this past Sunday. Rob & Chyna was the most watched unscripted cable television show this year and garnered lots of social media attention.
A six episode docu-series, the show follows Rob Kardashian and his fiancé Blac Chyna, as they embark on their new life together. Let’s back up a bit and recap the craziness that comes to mind when thinking about the most recent Kardashian baby mama drama.
Blac Chyna is the ex-girlfriend of rapper Tyga, who is Kylie Jenner’s current boyfriend. And Kylie Jenner is Rob Kardashian’s little sister. And of course, Rob and Chyna are also engaged to be married with a baby on the way.
It doesn’t stop there. Chyna revealed on Sunday’s premier that she met Rob at sister Kendall Jenner’s birthday party, which is also where Kylie met Tyga.
There was a lot of anticipation for the couple’s television debut, some positive and others not so much (I personally was indifferent, and didn’t care about whether I caught the show or not. I’m not sure why, but for some reason I just can’t take this relationship seriously!).
The show started with a scene of the couple hiking up a mountain, betting on what gender their baby would be (and that was cute). However, things quickly go downhill when Rob discloses the gender of the baby to his mother Kris Jenner after making a pact with Chyna to keep it a secret.
I call this slip up “regular relationship problems,” the typical guy not listening to his girlfriend/wife/ fiancé story. Slip up or not, Chyna is less than happy when she gets blind sighted by this news.
Tensions continue to rise when Rob tries to go through Chyna’s phone, who as a result feels mistrusted. Things get even worse when Chyna finds out that Rob is still texting other women, which causes the big blow up everyone was waiting to see from Blac Chyna.
I mean, what female in a relationship wants to find out her man is talking to other women? If you ask me, I think that the outburst was a bit much. But in Chyna’s defense, she is pregnant and it’s a tough pill to swallow when you’re planning to spend the rest of your life with someone.
Chyna proceeds to throw Rob out of the house….again. It’s clearly her thing, since she’s apparently a tough person who had to work for everything she has. However, a talk with Nanny Joy makes Chyna realize that she has to be slower to react in pushing people out of her life, namely Rob, who is the father of her unborn child.
All the while, Rob spends a lot of time with the infamous Scott Disick, Kourtney Kardashian’s ex and father to her children. In this episode, he seems to serve as Rob’s sounding board. What a cute bromance!
The episode progresses as Chyna searches for Rob after their big fight, (which even included breaking into his house!). A desperate Chyna seeks the advice of Rob’s mom to try to better understand her fiancé. I mean, what’s a Kardashian show without Kris Jenner, people?
As always, the show ends with previews for what the season has to offer. And from the looks of it, this romance seems to be on the rocks. Both Rob and Chyna allude to a future without the other, which makes me think maybe they jumped into this relationship rodeo a bit too quickly. Previews also show Chyna getting a paternity test, and confiding in Kim Kardashian, as she confesses that she hasn’t seen Rob in a week.
Only time will tell if Rob and Chyna will make it to the alter and become a part of the bigger Kardashian/Jenner clan. It’s all up in the air for now.
All I can say is that this show was okay and surprisingly different from traditional Keeping Up with the Kardashians vibes. I don’t look forward to more, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear break up rumors about the two within the coming months. Let’s keep the hope alive!
