A new change is coming for high school students graduating in the state of Maryland beginning with ninth graders entering school in 2015. Under Breanna’s Law, you must now know CPR in order to graduate.
The law is named after Perry Hall High School student Breanna Sudano, who collapsed during a field hockey match and survived when someone performed CPR on her.
Michaeline Fedder of the American Heart Association told WBAL-TV, “it makes sense and it’s simple and the kids love to do it.”
The course can be offered by schools through physical education classes or a separate class as long as the requirement is completed before graduation.
