The University of Maryland men’s basketball team is about to tackle a new frontier during their sensational storybook season: Reality television.

The Wichita Eagle is reporting that the Terps alongside Wichita State, Oklahoma and Notre Dame will be featured in a “Hard Knocks”-type television series on Showtime.

“The Road to March Madness” will follow teams during practices, games, road trips and around campus as they compete to get in to The Big Dance known as the NCAA Tournament. A seven-person production team will embed themselves with the players and give viewers a behind the scenes look at their lives over the course of the next couple of weeks.

The show is expected to air beginning February 17th and will continue weekly until March 16th. The first four episodes will air Tuesdays at 9 p.m., replacing “Inside the NFL,” with the final episode airing on the Monday after Selection Sunday.

The university will have final editorial control over any video featuring their players as will the other schools participating in the series.

Unfortunately, Showtime is not available on University of Maryland’s campus televisions so students may have to wait until clips hit online to see this show.

It is not known whether the Big Ten Network will have access to any of Showtime’s footage to air on their own channel. BTN has their own behind the scenes show, The Journey, which follows sports teams across the conference.

Pulsefeedz contacted the university’s athletics department for comment but they decided not to respond until Showtime officially announces the show themselves (the show’s announcement was leaked by Wichita State).
