Yet another member of One Direction, this time Niall Horan, has started launching some new music. Horan released the first single of his solo career,“This Town,” Sept. 29.
The track was first released on Vevo as a black-and-white music video, with acoustic vocals.
Horan’s first single strays differently from One Direction’s music and its previous “boy-band” sound as he tries to create his own path in the music industry.
In an interview with Ryan Seacrest on iHeart Radio, Horan said his inspiration for his music comes from artists such as Simon & Garfunkel and Bob Dylan.
He also explained that the song has multiple meanings, from small-town experiences to reuniting with people from the past, and describes it as an account of “that one person you always end up seeing when you go home.”
Horan is known for his ballads and acoustic sound while with One Direction and is a key component with regards to the lyrics of 1D top songs such as “Don’t Forget Where You Belong” and “Night Changes.”
While this is only his first single, Horan has already written around 15-20 incomplete songs and is working on an entire album. There is no set date on the untitled album’s release.
As Horan is the first of the group to release a single since previous member Zayn Malik left the group and released his album “Mind of Mine” back in March, it will be interesting to see which of the other members will come next.
Liam Payne has also signed a solo recording deal with Capitol Records and Harry Styles signed a solo recording career with Columbia Records.
Louis Tomlinson is reportedly, the only member to not sign a solo recording career deal.
Although all of the members of One Direction are pursuing separate careers, none of them have ruled out a reunion in the near future.
