Sunday night saw the beginning of a new television drama which is going to steal the attention of all political junkies such as myself. “Political Animals” delves into the lifestyle of being a DC politico, from politicians to journalists and elected officials. It’s a show which keeps you at the edge of your seat once you connect with the characters.
Despite my positive sentiments towards this show, I really felt as though all of the cussing and sex scenes were forced and weren’t really necessary. USA Network tried to add some HBO flavor with the added drama and realness but it just didn’t work. A lot of the language and nudity didn’t really go seamlessly with the story line and was only there to wake up viewers who probably got bored because of the pilot’s weak start.
It didn’t get really juicy until the middle of the show when a journalist who follows the main character (the Secretary of State) tells her editor who also happens to be her boyfriend a secret about the Secretary of State’s son which she’s been hiding for ethical reasons. From this point on, the show just seemed to be pick up steam very rapidly. We also find out that the Secretary of State’s future daughter-in-law has an eating disorder and so much more that you just have to watch to find out.
The show was way too obvious about who it’s based on despite numerous denials that it’s not about the life of Hilary Clinton. But you can’t watch this series and not tell me that Madam Secretary Clinton is not the first person who comes to mind when watching the main character in this show known as Madam Secretary Hammond.
I give this show 7.5/10 stars…………….room for improvement but a good start
